How Early Screening Allows Us to Battle Depression

By Adrian Zupp

Sun Tzu, the famed general of ancient China and author of the classic “The Art of War,” preached the virtues of preparation for battle. One of his central theses was that battles could virtually be won before they were fought. And so it is in the realm of mental health: taking the initiative early can go a long way towards winning the fight.

This is the rationale behind online screenings. If you feel you may have depression, PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder or other mental health challenge, you can take this first step, anonymously and free of charge. It’s simple and it makes sense.

If you suspect you may have symptoms of depression, you can get a better sense of this with a screening that takes just a few minutes. The screenings are not meant to be diagnostic, they’re meant to be a very accessible, and private, indicator of whether you should seek the advice of a clinician.

In addition, there is a good deal more information about depression at the Military Pathways® website where the screenings live.

So arm yourself. Take the initiative. That’s what the screenings are for. And if Sun Tzu were alive today, he’d tell the modern soldier the same thing.
